Nursery Practitioner - Level2/3

We are looking for an exceptional person to join our team. This unique opportunity requires a qualified childcare professional with plenty of personality, creativity and an open-mind. The nursery practitioner performs an important role caring for children, maintaining a high-quality, stimulating learning environment, supervising staff and imparting their knowledge and skills to others. They are creative and reflective and able to implement new ideas and use a range of strategies to continually improve practice and support the team. There is simply no other job like this one.

Responsibilities:

1. Day-to-day nursery activities which ensure that high standards of care and education are maintained.
2. Establishing appropriate planning, observation and assessment procedures in partnership with management and other staff to ensure children’s progress is monitored and aligned with the EYFS.
3. Effectively using our recording system (Tapestry) for each individual child, to enable effective storage and retrieval of information and sharing of progress with parents, other professionals and agencies whilst being aware of the confidentiality of the information contained therein.
4. Prioritising the well-being of the children at all times when they are in our care and ensuring that their needs are met.
5. Ensuring that the children have access to appropriate activities to support their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development whilst being aware of families’ ethnic, cultural and linguistic development.
6. Ensuring that children are supported but have freedom to play at all times and take part in available activities with minimal adult involvement or participation.
7. Encouraging children’s sense of self through patience and understanding when interacting with the children.
8. Contribute to a suitable curriculum that enables children to achieve their early learning goals inside and outside the nursery in consultation with the manager and/or deputy.
9. Forging professional relationships with parents/carers of children to ensure they are engaged in the child’s education and social development.
10. Taking responsibility for settling new children and families by participating in discussions with parents with regards to any special requirements (medical, dietary etc.).
11. Support students, trainees and volunteers on work placements or work experience in order to help them meet their training needs.
12. Complete all admin in a timely manner including, tracking, transition forms, medical, incident etc.
13. Maintain and enhance the parent and carers monthly workshops, incorporating the yearly celebrations.
14. Teach phonics to the children, using phonics Cd, books and action songs
15. Communicate and retrieve information regarding children that attend other settings on a regular basis
16. Relay information to the manager and deputy manager regarding the children’s care, staffing and planning ideas
17. Hold informal room meetings with your team on a weekly basis

Required:

1. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent/higher qualification in childcare or related subject
2. Experience working with children aged 0-5
3. Reliability
4. Enhanced DBS check (your role will depend on this, but we can apply for one if you start with us and do not already have one)
5. Good numeracy and literacy skills
6. Organisation skills
7. First aid certificate preferred
8. Excellent communication skills
9. Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, equal opportunities and confidentiality
10. Demonstrable knowledge of the EYFS
11. Full-time shifts (7:30am – 5:30pm, 8am-6pm) Monday to Friday
